Dear Parents, November 15, 2015 Thank you for your continued support of your child’s education. First grade is very thankful this holiday season. This week we wrapped up our subtraction unit. We learned how to stretch and blend words when reading. We have started to practice the Jesse Tree and students are showing great enthusiasm for the opportunity to lead the Mass. Our Mass is Friday, December 4th. We hope you will all join us. There is no school Thursday, Friday or Monday, November 30th. Please remember that reading logs are due on Tuesday, December 1. Both sides must be completed. Thank you for your support, Ms. Tynan Correction to the letter that went home: Reading logs are due Monday, Nov. 23rd.
Dear Parents, November 19, 2015 First grade continues to work hard. This week we learned about cooperation. Students had to work together to save Freddy, the gummy worm and put him in a lifesaver. The class found it easier when they worked together. In math, we have continued to work on subtraction and missing addends. We are also learning to tell time to the hour. In reading we worked on making mental images while reading. Students are working on listening to the author’s words to add detail to their pictures. This is a great skill to practice at home. Read a story aloud to your child and have them draw or discuss their mental image. We have continued to learn about Thanksgiving. Don’t forget we will celebrate Thanksgiving with Kindergarten on November 25th at 11 am. Wednesday is a half day. There is no school Thursday, Friday or Monday, November 30th. Please remember that reading logs are due on Monday. Both sides must be completed. Thank you for your support, Ms. Tynan
Dear Parents, October 9 2015 This week we learned about Columbus and started our pumpkin investigation. In math, we learned different ways to group numbers to add. We also worked on our addition facts. We are continuing to work on problem solving skills. In reading, students learned to identify the author’s purpose. We discussed why authors write books. Authors have three purposes: Persuade, Inform and entertain. We remember it by PIE. This week we only focused on inform and entertain. In phonics we learned blend at the end of a word. Thank you for your continued support as we reflect on our year so far. Please make sure you check your email and child’s folder for updates. If you have not received emails from me, please email me ASAP so I have the correct address. [email protected] Next week we start the reading log again. There is no school on Monday. Thank you for your support, Ms. Tynan Dear Parents, September 11, 2015

We discussed community leaders and had a school wide prayer service for the victims of September 11th. Hot Lunch starts Monday, 9/14. Star Students stars need to be returned next week and Reading Logs are due Monday! Please continue to check your child’s folder. Have a wonderful weekend. First Grade had a great week! We spent a lot of time reviewing our procedures and expectations. We practiced our math skills and discussed communities. First Grade learned about hard work and how Pope Francis works hard for others. Each student took the pledge to walk with Francis and serve others. We are excited for our second week of school. Remember that Monday there is no school. Wednesday night is Back to School Night at 7pm. I can’t wait to see your all. Next week we will start homework. Don’t forget to turn in your First Day Packets by Sept. 11. Have a wonderful weekend. Thank you for your support, Ms. Tynan |
