Dear Parents,
In phonics this week our first graders became SUPER HEREOS. They helped the r-controlled vowels sort themselves. They learned that r-controlled vowels have a bossy r and sound similar. In reading we learned about character traits and how to describe characters in stories.
In math, we continued to work with larger numbers to add and subtract. We will continue to work on this objective next week.
We learned about the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. this week in social studies. Next week we will learn more about famous African Americans as we wrap up Black History Month. Students have brought in some great facts and stories that they have learned. Students will be choosing one person to make a biography about.
As we continue to celebrate poetry, first grade became rappers and learned to make watermelon rhymes.
Monday we have an accreditation visit. First grade is excited to be on their best behavior. Today a field trip permission slip went home. We will be going to the National Building Museum on March 16th.
Thank you for your support,
Ms. Tynan
